Elegance, style and an artistic ambiance characterized the recent “Women of Style & Substance” luncheon presented by the Symphony of the Americas Society (SOAS) at Pier 66. This event honored seven women and one couple who exemplify elegance and grace and distinguished themselves in the community and at work through their dedication and contributions to various charities.
SOAS President, Ann Clark, beamed with pride as she introduced chairwoman Tava Latta and her Assistant chairwomen, Marilyn Johansen and Rochelle Koenig. Ann stated, “I was thrilled with the teamwork exhibited by our committee to insure the success of this special afternoon.”
A Special Musical Presentation by the Symphony of the Americas under the direction of internationally renowned Conductor, Maestro James Brooks Bruzzesi, featured the lively tango music of Astor Piazzolla. Highlighting the theme “Argentine Tango”. the talented piano duo Maria Laura Faglide & Ricardo Roel. mesmerized the audience with their incredible presentation. President Ann Clark commented, “The entertainment was outstanding.”
Also on hand to congratulate honorees was Dr. Peter Babinski, President of the SOA Board. Marilyn Johansen introduced each honoree, presenting with a medallion designed by Jon Paul Jewelers and then read their biographies as they walked down the runway.
This year’s outstanding honorees were: Ann Burris, Sherrill Capi, The Countess Henrietta de Hoernle, Billie Sue Engel, Pam Masters, Candy Norton, and Maria Soldani and Fred and Mary Ruffner.
Exemplifying the dedication of supporters of the Symphony of Americas was Iris Perez Morales, the winner of the $5000 Raffle, as she donated half the money to support the Symphony.

The Children's Educational Programs offered by Maestro Bruzzessi and the Symphony will be the recipients of the $70,000 that was raised at the luncheon. These programs, ranked as top in the nation, introduce children to the magic of Symphonic Music thereby creating an atmosphere that encourages them to actively participate in the creation of the wondors of music.
