Bowling Fundraiser presented by R.P.R.S.
Community Helps Raise $35,000 in Support of Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters Broward, the donor funded rganization challenged everyone—corporate partners, mentors, their friends and families, community leaders, as well as others who may not have time to mentor but support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission—to join Bowl for Kids’ Sake and start something to change the life of a child forever.
They all came together - avid bowlers and novices alike, on Monday, June 3 to raise funds of more than $35,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County’s at-risk youth mentoring programs. The event, Bowl For Kids’ Sake, was hosted by Miami Dolphins alumnus Shawn Wooden and nearly sold out SpareZ bowling alley in Davie.
For more than 40 years, Bowl For Kids’ Sake has been the premier fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across the nation. This year marked the fifth annual event in Broward County, which was presented by its title sponsor, Rice Pugatch Robinson and Schiller, P.A. (R.P.R.S) and hosted by SpareZ bowling center. Nearly 60 teams of community leaders, corporate partners and NFL alumni packed the bowling alley from 6-10 PM and enjoyed food, cocktails, bowling, awards, silent auction and a new “balloon-pop” raffle, where every balloon was a winner!
“Bowl for Kids’ Sake brings the whole community together in support of a positive future for our kids,” said Ana M. Cedeno, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward. “No matter how someone chooses to be involved—bowler, team captain, sponsor, or even a virtual bowler—each person has a hand in helping to start a child on the right path. Every dollar raised through Bowl for Kids’ Sake directly funds our mentoring programs in Broward County and helps to maintain and sustain our mentoring relationships, increasing kids chances for success.”
Arthur Rice of Rice Pugatch Robinson and Schiller, P.A and title sponsor for the event says, “Bowling is a game that is pure fun, and allows everyone to be a kid again. This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and our firm is proud to support this very worthy cause and challenge some of our local law firms to a friendly bowling competition. We thoroughly enjoy this event every year and feel good that we are helping for the children in our community”
The nation’s leader in quality one-to-one youth mentoring services, Big Brothers Big Sisters holds itself accountable for and is able to measure specific youth outcomes. Its programs focus on educational achievement, avoidance of risky behaviors such as juvenile delinquency, higher self-esteem, confidence and the ability to relate to others. Funds raised allow Big Brothers Big Sisters to carefully make more mentoring matches and provide ongoing assistance for mentors, mentees and families to help sustain long successful relationships unique to its programs.
The Broward County agency, part of the largest network of volunteer mentors of youth, relies on funding to carefully match volunteers with children and provide ongoing support to sustain long-term one-to-one mentoring friendships. All funds raised at the event go directly to creating and supporting new Big Brothers Big Sisters matches and providing additional children, volunteers and families with the life-changing experience of a one-to-one mentoring relationship.
Upwards of $20 million is raised, nationwide, through this effort, along with the hopes and aspirations of children who deserve an opportunity for a better future. Because of Bowl for Kids' Sake, more Bigs and Littles can be paired up, more friendships can be gained and improved outlooks on life can be started. If you wish to begin impacting children’s lives in our community, you can start by challenging yourself to raise $1,000 to help fund a child’s new mentoring opportunity.
