Publix Aprons Cooking School and Publix Aprons Catering, produced one winner for the top two awards, the first time this has happened in the event's four years.
This year's Burger Battle™ IV made history when Rosie's Bar & Grill took home both trophies, winning Best Overall as selected by the chef-driven judges' panel, and Fan Favorite, for its "Bacon Bitty Bang Bang Burger." Rosie's also won in the Best Bar & Grill Burger category and achieved the prestigious Burger Nirvana status, bestowed only upon the burgers which judges deemed provided that "perfect bite."
The event was held on Friday, May 31, in Huizenga Plaza. The event was to take place rain or shine, and while it did drizzle a bit, the weather certainly did not dampen the spirits of this year's contenders, participants or attendees. This year's Battle was on in full-force, with 16 restaurants hungry to compete for bragging rights and accolades.
Now in its fourth year, Burger Battle™ has become a major staple event in Fort Lauderdale, hosted along the scenic Riverwalk, bringing together South Florida burger aficionados for an evening of gourmet burger creations, cocktails, beers and fun. The event also raised funds to support Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale's mission of "building and nurturing a vibrant community connected by the New River."
Other accolades bestowed that evening included: Best Burger Joint, won by Charm City Burger Co.'s "The Wizz Burger" (second place overall), which also achieved Burger Nirvana status; and Best Knife and Fork Burger, won by Big City Tavern's "Hogfather Burger" (third place overall). Honorable mentions went to: Gimme A Burger's "Bourbon Bacon Infused Burger" (fourth place overall), and ROK:BRGR and American Social tied for fifth place overall. The Krystal Burger Slider Eating Contest was swallowed up by John Haley of Haley Engineering.
For those of you who are familiar with Burger Battle™, you already know that tickets sell out every year, the competition remains fierce with a full line-up of restaurants eager to compete, it continues to captivate a dedicated following of attendees who have watched it grow since its inaugural year, and each year it becomes more popular amongst seasoned attendees and newcomers alike. For those of you who have never attended, you may want to consider purchasing your tickets early next year before they sell out!
