Masked Revelers Raise Money for Pinion and Special Olympics

On Saturday, August 25, 2012, at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, more than 100 revelers braved the elements of Tropical Storm Isaac and joined forces with Pinion, Inc., and the Summer Masquerade, to raise money for Special Olympics.  Attendees danced the night away to the rocking sounds of Free Spirit, a family trio that traveled from Ft. Myers to donate their services for this masquerade-themed event.  Guests also got to experience the culinary creations of Executive Chef Sean McDonald and participate in the “Best Masked” contest.

Pinion rolled out a new fundraising program during the event to “Adopt an Athlete”—that enables those who wish to even further support the efforts of Pinion and Special Olympics of Broward County.  Donors choose to donate money for specific items for those athletes in need including athletic gear, uniforms, etc.  “We really hope this new program will give our members and the community a closer connection to the needs of Special Olympics,” said Pinion President Alice Harry. “We were happy that we had such a tremendous outpouring of support to kick-off this new program.  For those who are interested in Adopting an Athlete, they start at only $25.”

“The beautiful décor, courtesy of Sixth Star Entertainment, added a tremendous element to our event,” said co-chair Terry Witcher.  “It really helped set the mood for all of our Best Masked participants.”

The Winners of the Best Masked contest were:
        1st Place: Kim Nguyen
        2nd Place: Cy Yonan
3rd Place:  Beth Thorrez & Kirk Mitchell

The décor also spotlighted the fabulous Silent Auction that featured donations from (Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, Doubletree Gallery One Fort Lauderdale, Timpano Chop House, Waldorf Astoria Naples, Las Olas Wine & Food Festival, Riverside Hotel, Broadway Across America and more).

The Resort went all out for their second year in support of this fundraiser.  “We were so happy to be the host for this event,” said co-chair Valerie Peru (Business Development Manager, Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort).  “Our Blue Energy Team really enjoyed working with this wonderful charity and look forward to making the event even bigger next year!”
