GLAM-A-THON™ STRUT IS COMING TO YOUR TOWN
City of Fort Lauderdale’s business community champions nation’s first breast cancer awareness Corporate Challenge; Event scheduled for October 13, 2012
South Florida has made a new name for itself, this time as a proactive partner in the cure for breast cancer. This fall, Fort Lauderdale business community will unite to launch and host a dedicated breast cancer awareness Corporate Challenge.
The Glam-A-THON™ Strut, scheduled for October 13, 2012, is designed to mobilize the business community to raise awareness and funds for local breast cancer programs and initiatives. Corporate Divas and Dudes will be “strutting” their stuff through downtown Fort Lauderdale. Unusual in scope, the event takes the diva parade approximately one quarter miles in the sassiest stilettos, with the mission to Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye®. Proceeds from the Corporate Challenge will benefit the Broward Health Foundation, which supports breast cancer patients with the greatest financial need.
Businesses, organizations, associations, schools, religious and government entities are urged to register a team and raise funds through teambuilding events, client donations, employee and/or member challenges, and corporate matching programs.
The Corporate Challenge was officially launched at the Pink Champagne Bubble Bash, a private reception on July 12th at 110 Tower, the iconic LEED Gold certified office building in downtown. It also served as the kick-off event for the entire Glam-A-THON™ season, which will feature several events, including a VIP Glam Wine Dinner and the much-anticipated Lipstick Lounge.
The City of Fort Lauderdale along with the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, the Riverwalk Trust and the Downtown Development Authority of Fort Lauderdale came together to announce and support this city-wide initiative.
Even City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler will slip into character for the Strut this fall. Each year, Mayor Seiler dons a pair of one-of-a-kind Glam-A-THON™ high-top Converse sneakers to launch the Strut like a true Fort Lauderdale rock star.
“It’s an honor to be part of this dynamic event to raise awareness about breast cancer, assist patients and loved ones affected by the disease, and support efforts to find a cure,” said Mayor Seiler. “We applaud Glam-A-THON™ for their leadership and commitment to making a difference in our community, and we encourage local businesses and organizations to lend their support to this important and tremendously worthwhile cause.”
“In addition to sending thousands of divas onto the streets of Fort Lauderdale, the best part of this initiative is that 100% of the funds stay local,” said Tammy Gail, founder and president, Glam-A-THON™, and a breast cancer survivor herself. “The Glam-A-THON™ event series allows businesses and event participants to help families, friends and neighbors during their journey through breast cancer treatment. In October the entire city will indulge in one deliciously selfless act of generosity which is destined to make Glam-A-THON™ even more fabulous and spectacular than ever before!”
Glam-A-THON mobilizes communities by raising awareness of the dreadful disease known as breast cancer, which deeply affects the lives of those diagnosed and their families. Cultivating their philosophy will ensure financial growth which, in turn, commits to providing support and bringing hope to women, families, friends and neighbors during the fight to ‘kiss breast cancer goodbye.’
The Broward Health Foundation encompasses Broward General Medical Center, North Broward Medical Center, Imperial Point Medical Center, Coral Springs Medical Center, Chris Evert Children’s Hospital, Broward Health Weston and more than 30 facilities of the Community Health Services and Broward Health Physician Group.
