Culinary Students Mix and Mash Their Way to Success – Winterfest Competition Announces Winners

 Culinary students from The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale competed recently for tasty prizes awarded by Winterfest, Crisco and Perrier. The cook-off competition was judged by:

Chef Michelle Bernstein – James Beard Award Winner and Host of “Check Please”
Chef Bil Mitchell – Publix Aprons Cooking School
Chef Ralph Pagano – Executive Chef of The ONE Group’s STK Miami,
Hell’s Kitchen Finalist
Marty Foyer – Restaurant/Food Critic Hollywood Gazette
Chef Jack Kane – Chef Director of The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale

Students prepared original recipes containing ingredients from the following brands:


Crisco, Jif® peanut butter, Pillsbury® baking mixes, frostings, and flours, Magnolia® evaporated milk and
sweetened condensed milk, Hungry Jack® pancake mix and syrups, Martha White® baking mixes, Smucker’s® fruit spreads and ice cream toppings,
Folgers® coffee and Perrier. Their recipes were judged based on taste, texture, creativity, presentation and product usage.

The winners of the contest are:
Spa Cuisine Winner  -  Stephen Denihan
Signature Cocktail Winner - Ashley Gardiner   
Appetizer and Entrée Winner - Terry Garrish    
Dessert Winner and OVERALL Champion - Jessica Hernandez

Sponsors in attendance were Susan Kiehl - Nestle Waters/Perrier, Michele Butler - Smucker's & Marcia Gomez - Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.  First place winners in each category will each be awarded $500. The overall Best in Show winner will receive a once in a lifetime cooking experience with acclaimed Chef Michelle Bernstein and a pair of tickets aboard the Grand Marshal Showboat in the 40th Annual Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade on December 10th. All First Place Winners will present their winning recipes at the Gray Robinson, P.A. Winterfest White Party presented by Crisco® at the Harbor Beach Marriott.
