11th Annual Riverwalk Trust Tribute Honoring the Seminole Tribe of Florida
and Celebrating Fort Lauderdale's Centennial
Presented by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
Thursday, March 10, 2011
6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
(FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.) - The Riverwalk Trust
honored the Seminole Tribe of Florida for its role in the growth and development of Riverwalk Park and the City of Fort Lauderdale at the Riverwalk Trust Tribute, presented by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Thursday, March 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Timpano Chophouse & Martini Bar. This special Riverwalk Trust Tribute also celebrated the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Centennial.
Honored guests, sponsors and special ticket holders gathered for a VIP cocktail reception, beginning at 5 p.m. at the restaurant, which is located at 450 E. Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale.
The Seminoles played a major role in the creation of Fort Lauderdale, the Riverwalk and Downtown. More than 100 years ago, the Seminoles used the New River as a highway of custom and culture and a way to reach the new residents of Fort Lauderdale. The New River was a means of exploration and new beginnings, with Stranahan House as the center of trade and the genesis of a unified community. The interaction between the Seminoles and the new residents yielded growth, community and culture that led to Fort Lauderdale as we know it today.
“The contributions of the Seminole Tribe of Florida have been instrumental to the progress and advancement of our community,” said Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler. “Today, our Riverwalk serves as a signature downtown destination, as well as an important link to the history and rich cultural heritage of both the Seminole Tribe and our City. As we celebrate Fort Lauderdale's 100th Birthday, we salute the Seminole Tribe of Florida for its leadership and stewardship, and we look forward to continuing to work together to ensure a bright future for our City.”
Exquisite food, sensational spirits and festive entertainment delighted approximately 400 guests as they mingle at Riverwalk Trust’s signature annual social event. Attendees enjoyed cocktails courtesy of Bacardi, William Hill Estate Winery, LaMarca, and hors d’oeuvres from Timpano Chophouse & Martini Bar, with music from a live band.
Proceeds from the Riverwalk Tribute will assist the Riverwalk Trust in its efforts to promote, enhance and beautify the Riverwalk community. The cost for the event is $150 for individuals ($200 with VIP reception) and $125 for members ($175 with VIP) of the Riverwalk Trust at the Riverwalk 100 level or higher.
Exciting auction and raffle items were featured, including a one-week stay at a luxurious three-bedroom hilltop condo in Los Sueños, Costa Rica, courtesy of Cathy and Larry Danielle; a five-day/four-night all-inclusive stay at Breezes Rio Bueno Resort & Spa in Jamaica; tickets to top South Florida sporting events; two individual “rock star” baskets that include an autographed guitar courtesy of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino; logo package from S.MARKGRAPHICS; packages for theater, travel, wine, dining, health, beauty and more. About Riverwalk Trust
Riverwalk Trust serves as the catalyst in building and nurturing Riverwalk as a vibrant community connected by the New River. Riverwalk Trust accomplishes this mission through advocacy on behalf of the Riverwalk Park, communication through its website and Go Riverwalk magazine, its diverse offerings of events and its membership activities. Riverwalk Trust is currently pursuing projects to enhance and protect the integrity of the Riverwalk community, such as design guidelines for thoughtful development, funding for capital improvements and park enhancements, park programming and sustainability, management and final completion. It is our goal to create a public space in Downtown Fort Lauderdale where the many functions of community life can take place, where people feel ownership and connectedness and where they perceive their riverfront park as true common ground. In short, we strive to create a great waterfront place where people want to be.
