Guests first gathered at Bunny Bastian’s Fabulous Gables Estate home for a reception before being whisked away by limo to a fabulous restaurant


There were limos everywhere. It was like the Academy Awards—but even better. Driven to Dine, the major fundraiser for the Florida Heart Research Institute, combines, glamour, fun, great food—and mystery—to create a one-of-a-kind culinary experience. The adventure began at the beautiful Gables Estate home of philanthropist Bunny Bastian with a reception where the 150 guests gathered and mingled while enjoying hors d’oeuvres crafted by Le Cordon Bleu and cocktails courtesy of Pernod Ricard. An intimate band provided the background music and the magical setting of Bunny’s home right on the water provided the spectacular views and ambiance.


Before departing in the limos to a first-class restaurant selected by the “luck of the draw” Jim Angleton, chairman of the event, greeted the guests and introduced Dr. Dick Elias Chairman of the Board of Florida Heart Research Institute. A live auction followed that offered unusual trips such as: A 4-Star San Francisco Wine Country Escape – Three nights at the exclusive 4-star Fairmont Hotel, Napa Valley tour, sunset cruise on San Francisco Bay and one night in Carmel at Clint Eastwood’s ranch;  Dinner for 8 in your own home provided by Executive Chef Sean Bernal of The Oceanaire Seafood Room; 5-star escape to Ireland – To Shannon, Ireland for a seven day six night vacation, with  Castle accommodations; and Cooking School lessons in Tuscany for seven days and six nights.
When guests got into their limos they didn’t  know which restaurant they would be dining at until they arrived. Only the driver knew the destination. But they had nothing to worry about-- all the options were wonderful. Restaurants participating included: Acqualina-Chef Marc Debas, Atrio Restaurant and Wine Room at the Conrad Miami-Chef Jonathan McCann, Creek 28-Chef Kira Volz, EOS at the Viceroy Miami-Chef Michael Psilakis, Escopazzo-Chef Giancarla Bodoni, Gaetano Ristorante-Chef Gaetano Ascione, Gibraltar at Grove Isle-Chef Jeff O’Neill, La Marea at the Tides-Chef Gonzalo Rivera, Jr., Oceanaire-Chef Sean Bernal, Ortanique on the Mile-Chef Cindy Hutson, The Capital Grille-Chef Odel Arencibia, The Grill at the Setai-Chef Jonathan Wright, and Timo Restaurant & Bar-Chef Tim Andriola. As favors guests received insulated ecologically friendly bags from Whole Foods filled with all kinds of goodies.
