the 5th Annual Swing 4 the Kids Golf Tournament

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County and Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union raised $46,000 at the 5th Annual Swing 4 the Kids Golf Tournament. The event took place on April 27th, 2009 at Grande Oaks Country Club in Davie, where the movie, “Caddyshack,” was filmed. Capital Lending Solutions and Allied Strategies led the field as the events title sponsors for the fifth year in a row. Gold sponsors included, Ultimate Software and MasterCard Worldwide. Each player received a PGA golf shirt from Perry Ellis International and a $100.00 gift card to the Grande Oaks Pro Shop included in their golf “goodie bag” provided by SCG and Associates.

This year’s tournament theme, “Back to the Shack,” paid homage to the movie, “Caddyshack,” complete with dancing gophers, a “carnation whacking” contest, character impersonations and signs covering the course with memorable lines from the movie. Golfers also had the chance to win prizes by retrieving keys from “Greasy, grimy gopher guts” that would open a locked treasure chest. Doug Jones of Sixth Star Entertainment hosted the Flamingo putting contest and was the Master of Ceremonies for the awards luncheon.

The money raised from the tournament will allow Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County to continue their mission of helping children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with measurable impact. Donations also allow Big Brothers Big Sisters’ professional staff to carefully recruit and screen each volunteer and provide ongoing monitoring and support for the volunteer, child and family, ensuring safety and match success.

Players competed for coveted titles including: Straightest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Hole-in-One and Putt to Win. AutoNation and JM Family each hosted a hole-in-one prize of a new car including a Ford Mustang and Toyota Camry Hybrid. After the game was over and lunch was served, luxury items were raffled off to players and both silent and live auctions took place to raise additional funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County.
