Riverwalk Trust’s Ninth Annual Riverwalk Tribute Presented by Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler Honors Dr. George Hanbury, Celebrates 20 Years and Nets $57K

Riverwalk Trust honored Dr. George L. Hanbury for his outstanding contributions to the Riverwalk and greater Downtown community and celebrated 20 years of its own history at the Riverwalk Tribute presented by Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler on March 5. The event raised more than $57,000 for Riverwalk Trust, a non-profit organization that serves as a catalyst in building and nurturing a vibrant community centered along the New River.
Dr. George L. Hanbury served as Fort Lauderdale’s city manager for eight years beginning in 1988 and helped implement the city’s new plans for revitalizing downtown and creating the Riverwalk. Today, he is executive vice president and chief operating officer at Nova Southeastern University.
The event, held at the River House Restaurant, included a silent auction and balloon raffle with prizes totaling approximately $38,000. Exquisite food, sensational spirits and festive entertainment delighted guests as they mingled along the historic New River at the Riverwalk Trust’s signature annual social event.

Riverwalk Trust serves as the catalyst in building and nurturing Riverwalk as a vibrant community connected by the New River. Riverwalk Trust accomplishes this mission through advocacy on behalf of the Riverwalk Park, communication through its Web site and Go Riverwalk magazine, its diverse offerings of events and its membership activities.
Riverwalk Trust is currently pursuing projects to enhance and protect the integrity of the Riverwalk community, such as design guidelines for thoughtful development, funding for capital improvements and park enhancements, park programming and sustainability, management and final completion. It is our goal to create a public space in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, where the many functions of community life can take place, where people feel ownership and connectedness and where they perceive their riverfront park as true common ground. In short, we strive to create a great waterfront place where people want to be.
