Chopping, searing and entertaining, the Kabuki celebrity chefs had their shrimp flying. Celebrity chefs included some of Broward County’s community leaders. The chefs and their table guests dressed in themed costumes and competed for the coveted Geisha (best host), Kabuki (most theatrical), Samurai (best knife skills) and Sumo (wrestles with food) Awards.

With nearly 160 people dressed from glitzy diamonds and denim to Olympic athletes to Rabbis, guests enjoyed a night of Benihana’s exquisite Japanese cuisine, jester-like chef performances and the company of friends, all supporting BBBS. “The event has something for everyone, it’s interactive and fun, everyone get’s involved and everyone gets a chance to support Big Brothers Big Sisters,” says BBBS of Broward’s CEO, Ana Cedeño. After dinner, a live auction featured items such as signed Blues Brothers and U2 memorabilia and artwork by Romero Britto.
All proceeds from the event benefit BBBS programs facilitating child mentoring in Broward County. “Increasingly, more of our community recognize the problems too many of our youth face: violence, drop out rates, poverty, drug and alcohol abuse – Big Brothers Big Sisters is a solution that works to solve these societal problems. We know the impact one-to-one mentoring makes and with everyone’s help at our Kabuki Celebrity Cook-off we are making new strides in the positive development of our youth,” says Cedeño.
BBBS of Broward thanks Benihana for their pivotal partnership in making the Kabuki Celebrity Cook-off a five-star success.
