NBA CHAMP ALONZO MOURNING Raised $100,000 for mentoring program at bowling fundraiser

Miami, FL – January 22, 2008 – Alonzo Mourning, fellow athletes, and community supporters showcased their bowling skills at the 3rd Annual King Pin Classic, presented by Miccosukee Resort and Gaming. For the last three years, the King Pin Classic has raised more than $100,000 for the Honey Shine Mentoring Program, a program of Alonzo Mourning Charities.

Despite his recent injury, Alonzo Mourning mingled among guests, who in addition to bowling, enjoyed playing pool, masseuse stations, and virtual bowling on Nintendo Wii. It was truly a competitive atmosphere with great food catered by “Along Came Mary”, unlimited cocktails, and music.

Guests in attendance also included: Charles Johnson (Former MLB Catcher), Daunte Culpepper (Oakland Raiders QB), DJ Williams (Denver Broncos LB), Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat), Willis McGahee (Baltimore Ravens RB), Edgerrin James (Arizona Cardinals RB), Louis Oliver (Former Miami Dolphin), and many more from sports and entertainment.

“The support of Miccosukee Resort and Gaming, our corporate partners, and community made this event a true success,” said Mourning. “The proceeds from this event will help fund activities for the young girls that participate in Honey Shine.”

For the second consecutive year, the Seminole Strikers team lead the pack, winning the highly sought after title of “King Pin”. In an effort to help the team with the lowest score, the team from Macy’s received free bowling lessons as a prize that will hopefully enhance their chances next year.

Bowling wasn’t the only competition that night as a bidding war ensued over such items as a VIP experience to the upcoming Rod Stewart Concert, a chance to have be a ball kid alongside, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning’s son, Trey Mourning at a Miami Heat game, and training sessions with Alonzo Mourning and his personal trainer.

The evening came to a successful close as corporate sponsor, Miccosukee Resort & Gaming, announced their commitment to be the title sponsor of next year’s event.
