Virginia “Ginny “Miller and Ken Ortner

What program with Riverwalk Trust do you get the most excited about?

The beautification and lighting project for the New River (a/k/a The Garden Club).

How did you determine which charitable organizations you would support?

I get personally involved and must be passionate about the organization.  I look at four key areas:

Community ~ Causes ~ Children ~ the Arts.  Then I look at ways to partner these organizations with colleagues and friends.  There is strength in numbers, so make it fun and most of all set an example for others to follow.

Is there a charitable event(s) you really look forward to attending each year?

The Riverwalk Tribute (networking), The Tiara Ball (glamorous) and the Winterfest Ball (friends & fun) are a must!

What is your greatest strength(s) that makes you such an asset to your organization?

My partnering skills, teamwork and a can-do attitude.  I enjoy connecting people & organizations.

How do you relax?

Escape to the Spa to relax & recharge

Being nominated by colleagues & clients for Comerica’s National Quality Excellence Award in 2002.   I was one of 10 national winners in a company with over 10,000 employees.

How do you stay so motivated and committed?

Both my Mother and Grandmother set great examples for me to follow.  I definitely get my passion from my Sicilian heritage.  Two key things:  Anything is possible if you are committed to it and don’t take no for an answer.  Most of all I have the support from my husband Mike and my family; they are always there for me and keep me balanced.

What’s the best movie you have ever seen?

Anything by Alfred Hitchcock, my favorite is Vertigo

How do we get our young people more interested in charitable giving and community volunteering?

My advice as I step into a mentoring role is to have passion & commitment.  Select an organization that you can make a difference in, stick to it and the benefits will materialize.  Partnering and teamwork are key elements for success.

She has become well-known for her passion for nurturing the Fort Lauderdale’s live-work-play lifestyle through Riverwalk Trust, where she is immediate past President and has been on the executive committee for ten years, one of the accomplishments for which she is most proud.  Quinn recently graduated from Leadership Broward, which connects people throughout the community and promotes their leadership possibilities. Quinn’s specialty is bringing people together. She is active with Florida Atlantic University’s President‘s Community Council for Broward,  Winterfest Board,  A Child is Missing Alert Advisory Board, Honorary Chair for the Special Olympics of Broward county.  She is a member of the Gold Coast Jazz Society and The Opera Society.  In the fall of 2008 she was asked to join the Royal Dames of Cancer Research, a cause very important to her after losing her Mother to cancer in 2005.

Quinn has been involved in the downtown community since working at First Federal of Broward/ Glendale Federal Bank (1978-1994). After 12 years at Comerica Private Banking’s Fort Lauderdale office, Quinn left a job she had long loved for an opportunity at BNY Mellon Wealth Management simply so she could work at her passion—meeting people and forming connections for her company and the community.
