Have You Met?

Melinda Lee, is an active community activist, in the best sense of the words. Melinda landed in Fort Lauderdale less than six years ago and has made a mark in Broward County and beyond. She has chaired many major non-profit fundraisers including the Mayor's Ball (United Way), the Literary Feast (Broward Public Library Foundation), the Starfish Luncheon (Women In Distress) and FAB! Annual Luncheon (Funding Arts Broward) and has been on too many committees to mention...supporting the Urban League, the American Heart Assn., the American Red Cross, the Donor's Forum, MOA, MODS and FLIFF to name a few. Lee feels blessed that as the former Executive Director of the BankAtlantic Foundation that she had the ability to do so much good while in Fort Lauderdale.

She was also the Editor-at-large for Balance Magazine during it's 10 years of publication in south Florida. Recently Melinda started a new organization called ChangeEqualsChange...visit at the goal to move $10 Billion of dormant change into the economy via commerce or donation to worthy causes. 

In her spare time Lee enjoys dancing, cooking, acting and modeling. She has "starred in" numerous national commercials for Wendy's Hamburgers, ALEVE, Atlantis, and here are a few of her major print jobs...Cover of PAUSE Magazine, MORE Magazine, Olympus Cameras, Dentsply, Keds, Harrah's Casino, Coolibar, NYDJ (Not Your Daughter's Jeans), Princess Cruise, Seminole Casino, and more. Lee is single and currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, but says California is calling and may venture to that coast to continue her life's work in the very near future.


Do you have a mentor; someone who has been there to guide you or consult with you when you needed their input? 

I actually have a "Coach" who has been my personal consultant for the past ten years!


What program with your organization do you get the most excited about?

With the Change=Change project I am excited that the economic stimulus can retain or grow new jobs and help more small businesses keep their doors open!


How have things changed for you through the years?

I am constantly re-inventing myself and paying attention the messages (from within) that are guiding me.


What is your greatest strength(s) that makes you such an asset to your organization?

My energy and passion is my greatest attracts people to me and the causes that I am passionate about!


What is your greatest challenge at this time?

Being patient....the vision for the C=C project is to be a national movement that uses Corporate Champions to market the movement. Several companies are looking to add the C=C in 2010 and my impatient self wants it to happen...NOW!


What is your idea of perfect happiness? 

To be at peace with my life and would be nice to have love in my life and to continue to do meaningful work that uses my gifts!


How do you relax?

My favorite way to relax is to take a long walk. I also lose track of time when I cook!


Do you have a motto, or some words of wisdom, that has guided you through your life? 

The phrase..."It's all good!" is my motto. It allows me to pause when I initially think some "bad" has happened and instead believe that this situation is somehow good and moving me in a better direction for me.


What are your favorite leisure time activities or hobbies? 

I love to dance


What is your greatest indulgence?

Ice Cream or Gelato...which is my lunch on occasion, sprinkled with mixed nuts!


What magazine do you look forward to reading each week/month?

The covers all the news and helps me catch up since I am not the greatest about reading the paper every day.


What is your favorite restaurant?

I love Valentino's which is very close to where I live. It is cozy, dark and the food is always amazing!


What will we find you doing on a Saturday night?

Often I am at the is one of my indulgences to just escape for a few hours. Plus, I do a little acting on the side so I always enjoy watching excellent actors.


What is your greatest strength?

My positive outlook and energy!


What is your greatest weakness?

Shoes...I have to hold myself back from spending money needlessly on yet another pair of shoes.


What are you most disciplined about?

My personal fitness...I do a yoga routine called Spoga based on the centuries old, Five Tibetan Rites and I take long walks. I am in the best shape of my adult life.


What can we personally do to make things better for future generations?

Take action, do not be a spectator in your life be a participant!
