Is there a charitable event(s) you really look forward to attending each year?
The start of “season” each year for us is the Winterfest Boat Parade “White Party,” followed by the “Black Tie Ball” and finally the “VIP Viewing Party of the Boat Parade” itself. These are three of the best “non-profit” events of the years and in addition to being a great event, it is filled with wonderful people.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
Because of the nature of our business and the fact that the two of us make-up the company, getting a way from the office for more than a few days is difficult. Our favorite vacation spot is any four-day cruise out of Port Everglades. Typically, the cruise leaves on a Thursday afternoon and returns to port on Monday morning at 7 am. We have four luxurious days at sea, see some interesting ports and get to unwind – all with only missing one day of work!
What word best describes your life right now?
Motivated! The economy has been amazing for the past few years – but business doesn’t come in by itself. I find myself very motivated each day to wake-up early, get in my office and “get the work done.” I am motived to attend many networking events and create new relationships and nurture existing ones. I am motivated to follow-through on any commitments I made to the non-profits boards I sit on. And I am committed to helping others fulfill their dreams by providing them with leads whenever I can.
What charitable organizations are you involved with at the time?
As my life is motivated by excellence, I enjoy taking an active role with both charity and non-profit organizations. Following is a list of organizations I am heavily involved with.
- Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce
- Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale
- Broward House
- Pride Center at Equality Park
If you were to write an autobiography, what would the title of it be?
I am working on a book and the title is “Volunteering Your Way to the Top” – the story of my life!
What’s the key to the success and growth of S.MARK Graphics?
S.MARK Graphics was founded June 15, 1984 in Chicago. This year marks our 32 anniversary. Our success is based on our midwestern ethics of doing the very best job on everything we touch – regardless of compensation. We work just as hard on our pro bono projects as we do on our client projects.
How do you stay motivated and committed?
With our philosophy of doing the best job on everything we touch requires we stay motivated and committed. Returning calls quickly, listening to clients’ needs and creating the best artwork possible is just a part of being motivated and staying committed.
What will we find you doing on a Saturday night?
If you can imagine, my work schedule starts early Monday morning. The week includes many board meetings, networking events and in-between, breakfast and lunch “one on one” meetings to develop relationships with those I meet. Our favorite Saturday night is to open a good bottle of wine, make a few meals for the week and relax in our home.
What is your pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve has to be meeting someone at a networking event who takes complete interest in me. We have a great conversation that might include their need for a service we provide such as a new logo identity or web site. When I try calling this person the next day to follow-up, they don’t respond to my voice message or email. After I try a few times, I give up. I don’t understand how people can be so ingenuine. If you say something, stand behind what you say.
What are you most disciplined about?
I am most disciplined on living my life to its fullest. Everything I do I want to do my best. This starts with organization and planning. I get up at 5 am weekday mornings to ensure I’m in my office by 6 am. I then plan my day including anything I can do to go that extra mile – be it for my spouse, my family, my friend, my client or my colleague.
