Have You Met?

With an unmistakable charm, Joseph A. Krutel, called Joey by his family and friends, is making his mark in the business world, the South Florida social scene and the non-profit world, His dedication and commitment, particularly to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, is admirable and impactful.

A real estate broker by trade, he began his career in the music video and entertainment industry and built long lasting relationships with executives and talents. His real estate clientele consists of high profile sports and entertainment figures. Joey does not hesitate to use these contacts to raise funds for a cause close to his heart. the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF).

After losing his father, Fred Krutel to diabetes-related complications, Joey committed himself to the cure and pledged his tireless support to the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation. He has served on the committee of the DRI Golf & Tennis Classic and was fundamental to the success of the past two tournaments by soliciting major sponsorships and gathering much sought after auction items. Some of the items that he secured through his contacts included: an autographed guitar signed by Madonna, tickets to American Idol and a set visit to HBO's hit show Entourage.

Joey was recently honored by the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) Foundation at the 15th Annual Feast Among the Grapes held in Miami. Joey has really taken his passion and love for his father and made a difference in the hope for a cure for diabetes.

Who is the most interesting celebrity you ever met? Robert Evans was the most interesting. He was married to Ally MacGraw and is a famous producer from Hollywood. Some of his films include, The Godfather and Rosemary's Baby.

His lifestyle, from being active in that great era, and his status as a Hollywood icon is what makes him so interesting. "I loved hanging out with him either at his home, playing tennis or having dinner. His stories, whether from the 60 or 70s or more recent, were amazing" Joey said. He also wrote a documentary and a book titled “The Kid Stays in the Picture". "It was absolutely fascinating to listen to his many stories."

Joey highly recommends Evan's book, "The Kid Stays in the Picture". He said "it is unbelievable." Chronicling his high-drama life, Evans paints a riveting, self-promoting picture of his 30-year career in the film industry. In a predictably confident, often feisty tone, Evans describes his rise, fall and what he calls his recent return to the upper echelons of Tinseltown power, as he recalls personal encounters with, and memories of, such show-biz brand names as Errol Flynn, James Cagney, Jack Nicholson, Mia Farrow, Mike Todd, Francis Ford Coppola and two of his wives, Ali MacGraw and Phyllis George.

Who is your hero and why? My late father, Fred Krutel. When I was 13, my dad took me to the 1977 World Series. He took me after I won a bet I made with him that the Yankees would go to the World Series. My father honored his 13 year old son's (me) bet, even though we lived in Florida at the time, and took me to New York to see the Yankees play in the World Series.

If a movie were made of your life, who would play your part? Al Paccino, as he was when he filmed "The Godfather".

Which talent would you most like to have? I would still like to learn how to play the piano because of my passion for music.

Favorite books / Writers? The book I mentioned above called "The Kid is still in the Picture" .
Also, "Hilhaven Lodge: The Photo Booth Pictures". This is a monograph by Hollywood director Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour, Rush Hour II, and "Red Dragon) and features today's top media moguls, actors, directors, singers, rappers, athletes, artists, and pop icons playing, posing, mugging, and modeling in Ratner's old-fashioned photo booth located in his home. Hillhaven Lodge is the former estate of famed actress Ingrid Bergman.
I highly recommend that you read it. It includes: Jay Z,. Heath Ledger, Paris Hilton, Don Rickles, Don Cheetel, Colin Farrell, Chris and Sean Penn, Seal, Robert Downey, Jr. and more.

What is your motto? “Everything happens for a reason”.
