Have You Met?

Chad T. Van Horn, Esq. is a South Florida business leader dedicated to applying his resources and network to help people through his legal expertise, spirited entrepreneurship and philanthropic work. Whether it’s through his practice as the founder of Van Horn Law Group, P.A., one of South Florida’s leading bankruptcy firms, his efforts developing startup ventures that bring jobs to the local economy, or his leadership role as a board member with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County, Chad is committed to helping those around him.

Chad’s passion to bring value to every relationship makes him a sought-after public speaker in the community, drawing inspiration from his experiences alongside recognized leaders such as Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Barack Obama.

He is a strong believer in the power of connecting the right people with each other so that they can experience greater success, stating, “It’s always better to have a team pulling together than to try to go it alone. But you need to have the right team with shared values in order to achieve your true aspirations.”

Going back to when you first started with your organization to now, what has been your proudest personal accomplishment?  So many great experiences with Big Brothers Big Sisters.  My proudest moment is when my little brother showed me his report card and all of his grades came up.  He was so excited and immediately I could see the impact of the program.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?  I enjoy helping people through problems and watching them succeed.  Sometimes in only takes a little push or a spark.

Do you have a mentor; someone who has been there to guide you or consult with you when you needed their input?  I have been fortunate to have many mentors in my life.  A few that stick out are my Mother and Grandfather.  They both taught me alot in many different ways.

You are out in the public arena quite often; who is the most interesting person you have ever met?  President Obama.  It was amazing to be in the presence of the President of the United States let alone the interesting discussions we had on what it is like to be the leader of the country.

What program with your organization do you get the most excited about?  The one to one mentorship that being a big allows me to create.  If I can help one kid, that kid may be able to grow up and help many others.

How did you determine which charitable organizations you would support?  I got to know the people involved.  The people that work within an organization are very telling about that organization.

Is there a charitable event(s) you really look forward to attending each year? Big Brothers Big Sisters Deja Vu Ball of course!  The best event of the year.

How have things changed for you through the years?  I have evolved from starting as a big brother, to becoming a board member and legal counsel to the board, then a committee member, then a co-chair of an event and now being named big brother of the year.  I can't wait to see what's next!

What is your greatest strength(s) that makes you such an asset to your organization?  My passion for helping people.

What is your greatest challenge at this time?  Finding the time to give back more.  I wish I could do more.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?  Being able to combine my passion of travel and helping people.

What is the most important thing you have learned through the years?  Stay humble and surround yourself with good people.

How do you relax?  Playing basketball with friends or having cheese and wine with my girlfriend.

Do you have a favorite vacation spot? Rome, Italy.

What do you wish you could have a never-ending supply of?  Time!!!

If you found a treasure chest – and you could keep it, what would you want to be in it? Treasure... duh!

How can we reach out to other people in the world?  Through action.  Words and talk are cheap and the internet has made it even cheaper.  You have to show up and do something positive to make a positive change!

Is there an inspirational book you have read that you would recommend to others?  The bible.

What can make you laugh?  My family/friends.

What can make you cry?  Death.

Are you where you hoped you would be at this point in your life?  Yes.  But I have alot to do still.

What do you still hope to accomplish?  Become a leader that makes a larger change in the world.

What do you think is the biggest problem we are facing in this country today?  Hate.  There's too much hate, not enough love.

Who is your hero?  My Mom.

What is your favorite place to eat/meet?  Rice and Dough and Mortons.

Chad is an outstanding Lawyer, Big Brother, Board Member and all around great person. He brings a sense of enthusiasm and positive energy to everything he does. I am proud to call him a friend! Congratulations Chad.
