The 2007 MORGAN ADAMS
Concours D'Elegance Road Tour
Over 400 guests from the South Florida Community had a chance to attend a first time event at AVITAT in Boca Raton benefitting the Morgan Adams Foundation on Saturday, March 3, 2997. The Concour D'Elegance Road Tour display featured an awesome array of aircraft from an Aero-Vodochody L-39C "Angel 7" to a Johnson Rocket (1946) to a 1943 Howard DGA ISP. The automobile's displayed included a vintage 1947 Cadellac Convertible, 1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Sportsman, a 2007 Ferrari 599 Fiorano and dozens MORE!
One of the highlights of the event was an "air parade" led off by The "Angel 7", followed by three "home built" Swearingen SX300's and a Pitts S-2B.
Music was provided by Tony Wilson and his band and had the guests up and dancing in the hanger at AVITAT with a colorful audience of automobiles and aviation.
Three awards were given out that were determined by the vote of the guests:
The Joshua L. English Award - Peer's Choice - Automobile - This Tribute award honors Josh English, a young man who was in treatment for cancer in 1997 and 1998. Josh has beaten his disease and is now a SURVIVOR. Josh was diagnosed at the age of 10 with a PNET brain tumor.
The Lyndsey R. Cunningham Award - Peer's Choice - Aircraft - This Tribute Award honors Lyndsey Cunningham, a young lady who was in treatment for cancer in 1997 and 1998. Lyndsey has beaten her disease and is now a SURVIVOR. She was originally diagnosed with a medullablastoma brain tumor.
The Brett :M. Derosier Memorial Award - Best in Show - This Perpetual Honorarium Award honors the life of Brett Derosier, co-founder of the Morgan Adams Concours, who was killed in a tragic plane accident on August 13, 2005. The trophy remains on display at the Morgan Adams Foundation's Florida office at The Commonwealth Group and is shared with pediatric cancer research institutions across the state.
A silent and live auction was conducted throughout the night and guests were given the chance to contribute funds for a procedure known as the "Gene chip analysis and prediction of prognosis in ependymoma". This enables the testing of a child to see their tendancies for
Founded in October of 2003 by Joan Slaughter and Steven Adams, the Morgan Adams foundation is inspired by the memory of their daughter, Morgan, whose life was taken in 1998 by a brain tumor when she was six years old.
The Morgan Adams Concours d' Elegance seeks to HONOR the love and lives of children who are suffering and have suffered from cancer, to EDUCATE and expand the general understanding of childhood cancers, and, by blending our memories and our hopes with our determination. The Morgan Adams Concours d' Elegance will raise money to further a common goal: a CURE.
