Plantation Junior Woman’s Club Raises Over $15,000 for
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida

Through a series of small events, the Plantation Junior Woman’s Club exceeded its 2009/2010 goal of raising $10,000 to grant two wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida, Inc. By raising over $15,000, the club, founded in 1960, will be granting three wishes instead.
The Plantation Junior Woman’s Club (PJWC) helped to found Make-A-Wish in South Florida over 25 years ago, and continues to raise funds for this worthy organization each year.
Given the economic climate last year and the challenges associated with securing underwriting and donations, the PJWC decided to take a different route this year in its fund raising efforts. Historically, the club has held an annual gala, ranging from a dinner dance to casino night to the more casual “Fish for a Wish” event held last year at IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame. This year, the club partnered with several Plantation businesses to host smaller events, and also sponsored a tennis tournament.
Fundraising kicked off last December with an event at the Sawgrass Dream Dinners, co-owned by PJWC member Sally Grant. Next up, were a Shop for a Cause Day at Angelic Accents gift shop, a grand raffle drawing party at Bokamper’s Sports Bar & Grill, and an event at Just Fit Gym that included a free concert, raffles and silent auction.
The PJWC tennis tournament sold out with 48 registering to play in a round robin style tournament on April 28th. After the tournament, players enjoyed lunch, mini massages, raffles and a silent auction.
The final public event was another Shop for a Cause Day at My Sister’s Closet, a Fort Lauderdale consignment shop owned by PJWC member, Pam Caglianone.
Through the united efforts of PJWC and local businesses, children with life-threatening medical conditions will have wishes granted, bringing them a bit of hope, strength and joy. The PJWC presented a check to Make-A-Wish representatives at their June 16th meeting.
Next year, PJWC will return to hosting an gala event in the Spring.
