Celebrating “45 Magical Years of Caring and Sharing”
Over 1,000 volunteers were honored at the Senior Volunteer Services’ Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, at the Signature Grand in Davie, on April 15, 2010. Kristi Krueger, Reporter/Anchor Local Morning 10 News, was the Mistress of Ceremonies and the Broward Coalition on Aging received the 2010 Edith S. Lederberg “Wisdom in Action” Award for their lifelong commitment to community service and leadership in advocacy on behalf of seniors.
Senior Volunteer Services hosted their annual recognition luncheon as a thank you to the many senior volunteers, age 55 and over, who commit their time, share their knowledge and resources to meet critical community needs throughout Broward County. Deborah Lauer, Board Member and Event Committee Co- Chair said, “This annual event lets our volunteers know that they are appreciated and that we recognize their contribution. The luncheon was also an opportunity to inform the community about the various programs provided by Senior Volunteer Services and the impact our volunteers make in Broward County”.
Senior Volunteer Services has been actively serving the Broward County community for 45 years. The volunteers dedicate their time and skills to tutor and mentor children, provide support and companionship to frail elderly and adults with disabilities and the volunteers assist nonprofit organizations with their skills and experience enhancing the capacity of services to our community.
Our programs include: The Senior Companion Program, Respite for Caregivers, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Foster Grandparents, Dropout Prevention and Executive Service Corps. Lesley Tobin, Board Member and Committee Co-Chair said, “For 45 years this organization has been coming to the aid of our community by providing volunteers to Broward County nonprofits, educating children who require the one-on-one attention needed to proceed to the next grade, and sitting with a homebound senior who otherwise would be sitting alone.”
The event featured a variety of community corporate exhibit tables, a live magician, raffle drawings, music, dancing, and a gourmet lunch.
Thank you to our major sponsors, AT&T, Humana, Jet Blue Airways, North Shore Medical Center FMC Campus and Tobin and Reyes, PA.
